Service Description

Please join us for The Bokashi Method Workshop on Wednesday, November 19th from 6pm-7pm at the MCD Office in downtown Lake City. Tired of throwing away food scraps because you can't compost meat, dairy, or cooked foods? Meet bokashi - the Japanese fermentation method that lets you compost absolutely everything from your kitchen, including things traditional composting can't handle! This hands-on workshop will show you how to turn every food scrap into valuable soil amendment using this simple, apartment-friendly technique that produces no smell and attracts zero pests. Participants will learn the science behind bokashi fermentation and the step-by-step process from kitchen scrap to garden treasure. Each participant will take home a complete bokashi starter kit (includes bucket, bran, and instructions), enough bokashi bran for 3 months of composting, pH testing strips for monitoring progress, and a recipe for making your own bokashi bran. The cost for this workshop is $35/person. Registration is required. To register, visit https://www.missaukeecd.org/workshops or call us at 231-839-7193. This event is made possible by the Missaukee Conservation District millage renewed in 2024.
