Conservation Districts which started as early as the 1930's were made up of local farmers and landowners, trusted by their neighbors, who volunteered to provide information about land management and farming practices. They are local units of state government and operate under the Soil Conservation District Law (Act 297), P.A. 1937 as amended. Missaukee Conservation District was established in 1949. A five-member locally elected board of directors develops policy and conducts the programs within the district. The Missaukee Conservation District is fortunate to have the guidance and support of the following directors:
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful,
committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that
ever has."
