    Recycling Update-
   
As of January 5, 2008, the Recycling Center on Sanborn Road collects the
     following items free of charge:

Newspaper

Magazines

Junk Mail

Scrap metal

Tin Cans

Aluminum cans

Egg cartons

Clean paper bags

Plastic Bags  

There will be a fee of $5 to drop plastics, glass and cardboard - Be creative and car pool your recycling. Vouchers are available at the Missaukee County Treasurer Office, Missaukee County Building, Canal Street, Lake City
for $5.

Newspapers

Newspaper print, glossy fliers in newspapers, telephone books

Place in boxes or bags, or tie in bundles with twine or string, do not mix with junk mail or magazines

Any clean paper - colored, lined, computer, shredded, envelopes, unwanted mail

Boxboard & Corrugated Cardboard

Boxes - cereal, dry food, shoe, tissue, corrugated, paper bags, paper towel & toilet paper rolls

Remove & discard liners, cellophane and metal strips, flatten boxes

Glass Jars & Bottles

Clear glass only

Wash, remove labels and caps

Refrigerators must have Freon removed. Pell's Appliance & TV will take your old refrigerator if you purchase a new one from them or remove the Freon for a fee.

Mercury Thermometers:
Bring Missaukee Conservation District your old mercury filled fever thermometer and we will exchange it for a digital thermometer free of charge. Limit of 2 digital thermometers to Missaukee County Landowners only.

Clean Sweep & Household Hazardous Waste Collection-  Over 300 cars dropped off over a semi load of unused, unwanted and outdated household hazardous waste, fertilizers and pesticides for proper disposal. An additional semi was also filled with old tires. Mercury thermometers were exchanged for digital. Many thanks to the Missaukee County Road Commission for the use of their facilities.

When transporting Clean Sweep Collection items, please observe the following guidelines.

  1. Do not transport containers with open tops.
  2. Keep product in original container, sealed and labeled containers.
  3. Ensure containers are not leaking prior to transporting.
  4. Do not mix the contents of unknown or unlabeled containers.
  5. Secure all containers in the vehicle to ensure the container cannot slide, tip or spill.
  6. Over pack all leaking or questionable containers in clear plastic bags or leak proof container.
